$2,400 NLHE Main Event (Re-Entry)
Players Remaining: 23
As we head into the late evening and the late teens in terms of levels, two players have completely separated themselves from the pack: Joan Sandoval and Steve Karp.
Joan Sandoval is a poker blogger and enthusiasm enjoying her time as the big stack in what would be the biggest cash of her career. Having won her seat to this Main Event thanks to an online qualifier through Intertops Poker, Sandoval has been writing about her poker escapades on her Living the Dream blog. And she’s certainly living the dream here, as the first player to surmount seven digits. She topped 1,000,000 a few minutes ago, and now sits with 975,000.
In second place right now is professional poker pro Steve Karp. For some reason referring to himself as fellow Florida poker pro Corey Burbick throughout much of the day as a result of people not recognizing him without his signature hoodie (and probably some inside joke only he is privy to), the Palm Beach area player is looking to add another six-digit cash to his already impressive $1,328,962 in live career earnings. No word yet on whether he or the real Corey Burbick, who is not in attendance here in Aruba, will get the database entry for the result in this Main Event nor whether charges might be filed for stolen identity in the near future.
Beyond those two, there is a large pack of stacks in the 350,000 to 500,000 range, headlined by New York rounder Alex Rocha. After taking down a Deepstack Extravaganza event this summer at the Venetian in Las Vegas for $173,861, a win here would add a fourth six-digit score to his already impressive $1,400,000-plus resume.
